Prague

Old town Prague is a beautiful cobble  stoned area filled with charm and beautifuly maintained buildings. Stroll through the  streets and you can easily feel what life would have been in the 1800s.

A river cruise on the Vltava river is a memorable experience and an ideal way of seeing the beautiful, historical Prague from a different perspective. There are many boat tour operators all lined up next to each other and most leave on the hour.

Food:

There are lots and lots of cafès and coffee shops everywhere. People love to sit outside in good weather and chill and chat over a coffee and cake.

Kürtőskalács ( transliterated kurtosh kalach) is a spit cake specific to Hungarian-speaking regions in Romania or called chimney cake

Kürtőskalács is made from sweet, yeast dough (raised dough), of which a strip of dough is spun and then wrapped around a truncated cone–shaped baking spit, and rolled in granulated sugar. It is roasted over charcoal while basted with melted butter, until its surface cooks to a golden-brown color. During the baking process the sugar stuck on the kürtőskalács caramelises and forms a shiny, crispy crust. The surface of the cake can then be topped with additional ingredients such as powdered cinnamon.

In Prague they are served enrobed inside with chocolate or cream or strawberries

Halaal food:

Download halal trip as I find they have the best halaal options within your location at that point. Many restaurants have alcohol and are still halaal certified by the prague islamic council.

Hotel:

We stayed at Hilton Old town Prague as it was very conveniently located. The rooms are large but are very brown and had dated decor even tho the receptionist claimed they were refurbished rooms.(some pics online show fancier modern rooms in the same hotel)
Pros: The TV is HUGE and has a full english bouquet of channels.

The staff were not as warm and friendly as other Hiltons we have been to. One staff member gave us the wrong metro stop for the 119 bus and the receptionist was a little rude while talking to us when we asked for directions and abruptly making a call in the middle of an explanation.

The hotel is very near the Palladium mall which was very nice as there is a huge food court on the 2nd floor and stores. Also Hilton is walking distance from all the major tourist sights

Transport:

The old town is not large and one can walk everywhere important if you are staying in the old town. We purchased 24hour transport tickets when we reached as I find it is usualy the most cost effective way to get around European cities but we hardly used it. I would therefore not recomend buying it

To/from the airport:

Option 1 going to/from the airport:

bus 119 from the metro station Nàdrażi Veleslavin.

Option 2 :There is an alternative faster airport shuttle from the main train station (it is not included in the 24hour pass)

Please note that there is NO BUS 119 to the airport from Dejvickà metro anymore!!! This was the wrong advice on old tripadvisor forums and from the Hilton concierge.

For schengan country flights go to terminal 2 and international flights terminal 1.

Amsterdam Part 3: Things to do in Amsterdam and most of them are for FREE!!

Things to do in Amsterdam and most of them are for FREE!! As a "professional tourist" (and wife and cook and cleaner) for 8 months in Amsterdam I loved the fact that there are so many things to do in Amsterdam for free. Not the its free but there is a catch kind that I am use to in Africa..genuinely for FREE. NO STRINGS ATTACHED. Finding an amazing crew of friends who are as free as you are is the first step to enjoying all the below activities. But even if you are alone ...GO! I met my fun friends through these activities and we painted Amsterdam red 😉 Sign up to the Meetup app. Meetups introduces you for free with people who have the same intrests and hobbies as you have. Get togethers, workshops and events are then sent to you depending on your intrests. There are many people in Amsterdam who are looking for jobs or here because of their partners. I met one of my amazing friends at a meet up of ladies in the park. It is daunting to put yourself out there on your o...

Amsterdam part 2 Halal food and majestic mosques

Halal food and majestic mosques. Food: When in Amsterdam forget Mcdonalds and Burger king and instead try out the vast range of Dutch food available. From Kibbeling (cubes of hot steaming battered fish which will have your tastebuds singing on a cold winters day) and delicious crispy Frites (legendary french fries smothered with creamy mayonnaise or ketchup served in a cone) which is sure to never let you look at the humble french fry the same way again. Both of these can be found in every corner in central Amsterdam. Halal food options: 🍔🌭🍟 Artisani  was our favourite go to spot for delicious thick patty burgers, the perfect seasoned frites and huge scrumptious hotdogs and tart freshly made strawberry lemonade. Similar in concept and taste to Shake shack. Artisani is located on Kinkerstraat (near to Action/Mcdonalds) 🥐🍳 Simit sarayi   also on Kinkerstraat has large range of Turkish light food options and is a delectable halal breakfast option. 🥘 Piri Reis  gran...

A weekend in Switzerland are what dreams are made of

When planning a holiday in switzerland, do not underestimate the cost of transport. Switzerland has an amazing transport network which is smart, fast, efficient and very very expensive. My advice would be to decide what you want to do, for how long and where you want to go. Once you have established this, choose a pass that suits you. It is worth every penny as single journeys are insanely expensive. Passes usualy include trains, buses, boats and mountain modes of transport like cable cars. As we came for the weekend, We wanted to base ourselves in Luzern and travel around from there. Luzern had a special on the Luzern Tell Pass (free 2 day Tell Pass when you book at certain hotels in Luzern) which gives you transport and access to all the highlights in Central switzerland which works out very well. This pass does not include transport from/to Zurich  to Luzern. (€30 per way pp) My suggestions to see if you staying in Lucerne: MOUNT RIGI, MOUNT TITLIS AND DO THE GOLDEN P...
